Dingwall Payoff Obvious

Minty fresh Dingwall's payoff is obvious to anyone with an amoeba count higher than 2.

But since alot of Cdns (at least out East) appear to vote with an amoeba count of 1, I will give you the "no spin" truth about the payoff.

No one is entitled to severance for quitting a job - period. The only way "severance" is given, is if a negotiation takes place prior to the employee quitting (ie: "I'll train the new guy and you give me $500G and we'll all be happy).

When the Fibs got wind of the fact that some people of higher intelligence were asking astute questions, they quickly came up with the "well we sought legal advice and we have to pay" line, and "It's in all these different Acts that say we have to" speal, hoping that this would resolve the issue to most Cdns.

Time spent by, and thanks to Licia Corbella's sleuthing, we know the none of the Acts that John McCallum referred to have anything to do with Dingwall's termination.

So what is the truth?? The Libs told him to leave and they would pay him out the rest of his salary. Plain and simple really. It's only when the Opposition caught wind of the news that it became public information. Otherwise it would have been another hush hush Liberal maneuvre to waste more of your hard earned dollar.

You have to wonder how long the Liberals themselves are going to keep up the charade of PM's "quality leadership" and get themselves someone with some real talent.

Good call. This is just so much BS to cover up 'hush money.' It's interesting that even Liberals are disgusted; how bad is that? Of course, PMPM himself was "mad as hell" about adscam, for what that was worth.

All of these minor scandals that Canadians love to brush off are really starting to add up.

At what point do they sit up, take notice, and dare I say it, punish those responsible.

This is really going to open a can of worms for people leaving there position. If this is allowed to go through, the precedent set is going to kill. Probably a good thing so it collapses the country sooner.

In the U.S. Federal Government, political appointees receive NO severance pay when they resign or are terminated.

While most U.S. Federal appointees eventually become employed as lobbyists, ethics laws are quite strict in terms of influence peddling of their former agencies.

Where in Canadian labour law is there an "entitlement" to severance pay??

At what point do you think eastern Canadians are going to hit the tipping point. How more many billion can this government waste before "nearly bankrupt" Ontario starts saying NO.

As of for "quality leadership" and "real talent" that ship has sailed - it is not available in the Liberal Party and a scarce commodity anywhere else in Canadian politics.

Aizlynne! Nice to see you are still kicking some serious butt. I will get another blog going in a short while, and send you the link. There was a bitter element from the former chatroom we were in who couldn't bear to see us leave and then decided to post some really strange comments on our blog. Nothing like an obsessive 'fan' to ruin things for everyone. We are still extremely busy, but will read daily and post whenever we can.

I have finally got my Peace Arch blog up and running and have added many Canadian and American political blog links!

I'm among the very few Yanks who has undertaken Canadian studies. To be painfully honest, I'm embarrassed that my previous understandings about Canada's government were - shall we say - a bit naieve. While Adscam, Dingwallgate, and other recent Librano scandals have opened my eyes to the lack of accountability, I'm realizing that these abuses of public trust are not new to Canadians.
