Martin A Pussy When Dealing With China

I know many of us are so caught up in the corruption happening in our backyards that we forget that the abysmal leadership skills the PM has transcend our borders - as can be seen by his latest round of talks with China.

Martin's comments that he had a "serious" discussion with China about their treatment of Chinese citizens was at best weak and totally ineffective. In fact, the PM was told not to use the words "human rights" but the words "good governance and the rule of law".

I'm not sure if you know, but The Chinese Communist Party (CCP} is responsible for the deaths of an estimated 47-75 million people! Despite this fact, China’s leader was given a warm welcome by Martin.

In fact, both the Chretien and Martin governments have been very reticent to criticize China’s human rights abuses. Some of these abuses include forced abortions, religious and political repression, selling prisoner’s organs, mass executions, and torture.

But has anything changed? According to Amnesty International, conditions in China have deteriorated.

So is our trade with China important enough to continue to turn a blind eye to the abuses suffered by their citizens?

This article is definitely worth reading and will be of interest to anyone willing to hear some truths and facts about China - and our need to keep an eye on a country considered by the US as "the #1 threat to global security".

I'll play a little devil's advocate on this one...

Yes, China has been committing human rights violations against its own citizens but some would argue that the US is committing many violations themselves but to citizens of other countries (though their lightning quick reflexes to the Katrina damage could argue that they aren't favorable to their own citizens either).

So, how does Canada get less reliant on the US economy and still keep you own strong... find a new buyer for our resources, like China. Maybe by having a better trade relation with China, we (as Canadians) can encourage the Chinese to progress their social conditions.

.... and before all the right-wing nutters start calling me a "moonbat" again, let me state that I really don't think that this was the Liberals intent. Martin is scared of upsetting the Chinese (like he is also scared of upsetting the Americans). He'll give away the country to the world superpowers before he stands up to them. However, the strategy of diversifying the Canadian portfolio of trade so we are less reliant on the Americans is a good thing. Maybe China isn't the best trading partner to replace the Americans but they are still an option.

Curious that someone thinks America has a huge plane circling in the the sky which, when needed, can disgorge, instantly, hundreds of thousands of tons of relief aid and tens of thousands of personnel, all falling to the ground in the exact place needed, all set up and ready to go. That the government is not hindered by, weather, roads, infrastructure and many incompetent, local political hacks. Perhaps we should study China's response to her disasters, disappear people who stand in the way and ignore laws and state's rights. Why have states?
Anyway, disregarding some strange views of some of America's intentions on Earth, all in all, I'd rather depend on Democratic nations for our survival and for fairness, something I cannot feel comfortable in getting from China, the Middle East, Africa, any place run by dictatorship.
As I said in a post a few days ago, China will trade willingly, as long as you are happy to run a trade deficit. I believe she would even forego that short-term, if she could drive a wedge between countries who stand against her.
Climbing into bed with China is surely justified if you feel the rest of the world, even your friends, are whores too.

Getting into bed with China is a bad idea Lex... Would you really want communists to have such a large stake in our economy?

Aiz...the only human rights discussion between PMPM and the CCp head honcho probably went something like this..."So,Paul.Please to explain to me how you can successfully denigrate, step on and isolate 11/13ths of your country, steal billions of dollars, buy votes, allow crooks and terrorists into your country, disarm your citizens, help the powerful, and still manage not to be called a dictatorial,sociopathic,whore-mongering ,marxist/socialist,commuinistic bastard like me?"
As for Lex...pay him/her no attention.He/She doesn't even no that "leftwing" and "moonbat" are the one and same.Maybe after he/she takes their head out their ass, they will grab a dictionary.

Hey Aizlynne, your "word Veri" just called be "dumnn"...lol

Paul, richard, and justthinkin all make excellent points. Why the hell would you want to trade with a country that eventually is going to eat you up, and eventually $hit you out as waste. Not to mention, if you pi$$ them off, you would be dog meat very quickly. Dealing with democratic countries is the only way to go even if there is disputes at times. At least trade can continue while the dispute is going through channels. I doubt we would even have that luxury with China.

" Martin A Pussy When Dealing With China"

This is what I like about you, A! God bless Albertan women with big brass ****s!

I think given the extremely well documented history of The Liberals bending over backwards to curry favour with immigrant communities it is not too much of a stretch to surmise that the reason why Paul Martin is such a pussy when dealing with China is because he is skeeeeeeered of losing votes in heavily Chinese ridings in Vancouver and Toronto. As the Autorantic Virtual Moonbat would say: Justice, indeed!!! Human rights, indeed!!!

Now come on guys, as Lex said - he is playing devil's advocate so give him a break.

I understand when he says reliancy on one country to do trading with would be detrimental to Canada and I agree with him.

What's important to note though Lex is that, as Brian stated, the reality is that Canada's trade deficit with China was larger than with any other single country. On a dollar basis Lex, Canada imports four times as much from China as we export.

Aizlynne:
Brian McAdam's presentation was well prepared.

I have found most Americans and Canadians, even conservatives, are unconcerned about Chinese military, economic, and political dominance. Even right-wing folks have deaf ears when it comes to concerns about China's nuclear weapons, or the possibility China could provide these nukes to Canada or Mexico as part of "strategic alliances".

In late 1939-early 1940, the period of the "Phony War", many French citizens deluded themselves into believing their country was safe from attack by the Third Reich.

In late 1939-early 1940, Many Belgian, Dutch, Danish and Norwegian citizens also deluded themselves into believing their neutrality would be respected and they were safe from attack by the Third Reich.

Based on results, were those beliefs justified??

What a post.

I argue that Canada needs a different government JUST on the basis of the emerging problem that IS China. Let us all sleep tight, however.
