China - The Enemy? - Lesson #2

It's not often that I spend my time blogging about one topic, but I want to make sure everyone GETS it about China. While middle east terrorism is important, we can't lose site of China's agenda.

Yesterday we had a great discussion about trade, the insignificant amount we actually do with them, and the economic disadvantages for Canada. China's blatant disregard for human rights and their persistent threats to invade neighbouring Taiwan should be enough for the government to ban trade with China.

Today, I want to raise the alert on Chinese espionage and the military threat China poses to Canada. Intelligence reports that there are 300-500 "front companies" being used to direct espionage.

Recent information passed along by defectors confirm that over 1,000 spies are currently in Canada - in our universities and technology based companies - obtaining information in order to advance their global competitiveness and increase military strength.

The Pentagon stated as recently as July that "China views expansion of its strategic reach as necessary to help meet its need for additional natural resources, such as oil, natural gas and metals. There's a cliche out there that all they're focusing on is their economic growth and that they just want to be fat, happy communists. We're saying 'be careful' because they have their own doctrine of comprehensive national power."

That doctrine, entitled the 24 Character Strategy advises Chinese military planners to observe calmly; secure our position; cope with affairs calmly; hide our capacities; and bide our time.

Bide their time for what?? World domination. I wish I was kidding... but I'm not. This statement of China's intent should be alarming:

"Would the United States allow us to go out to gain new living space? First, if the United States is firm in blocking us, it is hard for us to do anything significant to Taiwan and some other countries! Second, even if we could snatch some land from Taiwan, Vietnam, India, or even Japan, how much more living space can we get? Very trivial! Only countries like the United States, Canada and Australia have the vast land to serve our need for mass colonization."

"We must prepare ourselves for two scenarios. If our biological weapons succeed in the surprise attack [on the United States], the Chinese people will be able to keep their losses at a minimum in the fight against the United States. If, however, the attack fails and triggers a nuclear retaliation from the United States, China would perhaps suffer a catastrophe in which more than half of its population would perish. That is why we need to be ready with air defense systems for our big and medium-sized cities." - General Chi Haotian, China’s former Minister of Defense

Or how about this comment made just 2 weeks ago! The claim by Chinese General Zhu Chenghu stated that - 'If the U.S. were to attack China over Taiwan, China would not hesitate to use nuclear weapons and that “Americans will have to be prepared that hundreds .. of cities .. will be destroyed by the Chinese.”'

Do we need a wake up call about China's intentions? Should we take this threat seriously? I think so. Why? Because they are intent on invading Taiwan - - and we've seen this kind of thing before:

"For months, indeed for years, the shadow of impending conflict has been ever present ... unhappily for the world, they have persisted in their attempt to extend their control over other peoples and countries, and to pursue their aggressive designs in wanton disregard ... it is this , this lust for conquest, this determination to dominate throughout the world, which is the real cause ... that today threatens the freedom of mankind."

- W.L. Mackenzie King - announcing Canada's decision to enter WWII

History on repeat?? Chicken Little theology? What say you?

Ever since Mao,the Chinese over riding feeling that they are the world's best has only intensified. It was there before when they had their scrapes with Japan and Russia, but then they were only a bunch of feudal knigdoms ruled by shoguns.NOW they are a unified powerhouse with only one goal, worlwide domination.Perhaps the only good thing about this is that if they suceed, they WILL and DO know how to deal with Islamic nutcases.Unfortunately, our great-great grandkids won't be around to see it.Now excuse me while I resume my Mandarin lessons.

China will have Taiwan, that is not a question to them. What will we do? That is the only question.
China intends to be the next superpower and will do so. Her work now is to weaken the U.S. and her allies to a point where she will not be met with serious opposition in her intentions and if she is, the outcome will likely be in her favor.
She makes friends once again with Russia and Iran to strengthen her north and western borders. It seems she will strike to her south and also take Japan to her east - that alone, after I read what Japan did in The Rape of Nanking should give the Japanese nightmares.
For now, I think she gathers all the information and economic power she can and as you pointed out, they wait. Wait because they can, because we will not preempt them.
Democracies drive me crazy in that they know the wall will fall, the wall is falling, and after it has fallen on us, we get mad as hell, then do something. And more young people die.
But then, I'm just a H.S. graduate.

& don't forget that Asian cultures, particularly the Chinese, are much older than hours. Long-term to a North American is 5-10 years - to the Chinese, 5-10-20 decades.

Yikes, I just had a nightmare we went from rule by Martin to rule by Mao. ... Where's that beer ...

I'm with the sentiment above, and don't trust them at all. They will probably make a move when they sense the western democracies are at their weakest.

Funny....but I always regarded North Korea as more of a threat. China might have one of the worst H.R. records in the world, but even they know what the response will be if they use chemical/nuclear weapons against the U.S. Would they be willing to risk that much?
The other curious thing is, if they could invade Taiwan,(wich they could easily do with the sheer numbers in their military) why haven't they done it yet?China has had 40+ years to do it. They knew that during the Clinton admin., the Americans weren't ready,(or wanted) another conflict. And that a conflict with China would be almost suicide on more than one front for the Americans.
Great debate on this post!..I was going to do a post on China...unless I can find something different, you beat me to it!

Canada has a sad history of ignoring human rights violations in exchange for trade deals. Then, the feds turn around and attempt to portray Canada as the great world leader of those very same rights.

Far too many Americans and Canadians are tone-deaf about China's growing military, economic, and political dominance.

Aizlynne, thanks for speaking up on this topic. For the most part, China has been ignored in the blogosphere as well as the MSM.

Remember when Petigrew has to answer questions regarding China's spys... "We need to have friendly relations with China" blah blah blah.

"There's no answer there "Mr." Speaker" said Stockwell Day.

p.s Aizlynne: I have a new post you may like. I guess I had to sooner or later.

Not often that one comes upon a blogsite and see a direct parallel of ideas and concearns as I see here.
You may have read my comments on China unease, on SDA, so no need to bore with repeating here, except to say any friends through the years who were of Chinese heritage were excellent individuals.

Guess when people bash the USA or China they may not stop to think, is it all the people we protest against, or is it just the overambitious greedy leadership?

Ever notice how rare it is to see those of Chinese heritage in the news as criminals? They are usually pretty patient, friendly and good natured folks. 73s TG
